Grow Your Own
Crofton Allotments
Allotments are low cost and allow you to grow larger quantities of food. They are managed by Crofton Parish Council and Wakefield Council
Allotment sites are located at:
- Pontefract Road
- Hare Park Lane
- Oak Street
- Barratts Road
You Can Grow Without a Garden
You don’t need a large garden, expensive equipment or lots of experience to start growing your own food. You can grow fresh produce:
- On a windowsill
- In pots on a doorstep
- In hanging baskets
- In tubs on a balcony
Start small. One pot of herbs is a brilliant first step.
You can pick up free seeds and plants at the annual Crofton Play & Seed Swap. This year it is being held on 3rd May at the Crofton Parish Centre (Library). You can learn more about it here.
Company Shop Trips
We organise shared trips to the Company Shop in Barnsley to help local residents access heavily discounted food and household products.
Company Shop sells surplus products from supermarkets and manufacturers. These are perfectly good items that cannot be sold through normal retail channels, such as short-dated stock, packaging changes, seasonal products or overproduction.
Because of this, prices are often much cheaper than supermarkets, helping households reduce their weekly food bills while preventing good food from going to waste.
The nearest store is Company Shop Wentworth.
We are offering car-share trips from Crofton to help people who may not have transport access the shop

Crofton Food Bank
If you’re struggling to afford food, Crofton Foodbank is here to help local residents.
They provide emergency food parcels containing essential cupboard items such as pasta, rice, cereal, tinned food and long-life milk to help individuals and families through difficult times.
Crofton Foodbank currently offers home deliveries every other Friday, helping ensure support reaches people who may find it difficult to travel.
